The Good Muck Story:
From Burnout to Breakthrough
Hi, I’m Caitlin
Founder & Facilitator at The Good Muck
For years, I subscribed to the core belief that my worth was measured in productivity, and rest was a sign of laziness. While I appeared successful on paper, inside was a different story. Trading authenticity for external security, as a young litigator, I relentlessly sought validation in billable hours. But over time, despite changing jobs, careers, and locations, the hidden costs of this belief added up. Chronic muscle tension, disordered eating, an autoimmune diagnosis, and eventually, two herniated discs left me emotionally spent and physically immobile.
A new path forward
Despite changing external circumstances, my issues always persisted. Relief came unexpectedly: Bedridden, I found online Yoga Nidra for pain management and rest, my first foray into my inner world. Breathwork, Hypnosis, and Sound group classes soon followed. I realized that the real fix wasn't found in the external; it was the deeply ingrained beliefs in my subconscious keeping my body and nervous system locked in survival mode. Through consistent practice, a radical shift occurred. Pushing was no longer viable. Surrendering to and trusting my intuition became the new path.
“I’m in the muck. But it’s the good muck, I think.”
The process wasn't always clean. It was messy, uncomfortable, and required confronting old truths, old pains I'd avoided for years. When I finally found the courage to acknowledge that raw state, the concept of The Good Muck came to me. It wasn't about being "fixed" or "healed" but realizing that any discomfort was simply information. And I could meet those challenging sensations (that were after all only temporary) with compassion and kindness. It’s the truth behind the quote that anchors our work: "I’m in the muck. But it’s the good muck, I think."
