The Good Muck's multi-modal framework of body-based practices
Curated Practices Designed to Meet Yourself Where You Are
What if you could check-in with yourself daily asking "What do I need today?" and know exactly how to nourish your mind and body? That’s the power of our framework. We reject the "one-size-fits-all" approach. Why? Because your energy, your capacity, and your nervous system activation constantly fluctuate. Our approach is multi-modal by design to provide titration, ensuring you avoid system overwhelm and the dreaded shutdown.
What does this look like in practice? If your energy is low, perhaps you nourish with Yoga Nidra. When you’re ready for intentional physical work, maybe you engage in Breathwork, actively clearing limiting beliefs so Clinical Hypnosis can take root. Or if you need to down-regulate, combining Sound with Hypnosis is a powerful way to enter a parasympathetic (the rest and digest) state where you are able to more readily accept hypnotic suggestions.
The Good Muck specializes in multiple, science-backed modalities because the more choices you have, the more resilient your system becomes, preparing you for true subconscious integration and lasting change.
Modalities
-

Clinical Hypnosis
Being in a hypnotic trance state is completely natural, creative, and familiar to everyone. You may not be conscious of it, but you enter this state whenever your mind is deeply focused or relaxed—like when your best ideas come to you right before you fall asleep, or when you find solutions in the shower. Clinical Hypnosis is simply a focused way of intentionally entering this deeply receptive state of consciousness.
Hypnosis is essential for bypassing the logic center and communicating directly with your subconscious mind through the language it understands best: feeling, sensation, and metaphor. You remain fully in control and are an active participant in this co-created experience. We use hypnotic techniques that allow you to gently unlearn old patterning and limiting beliefs. Whether rewriting past timelines or casting into the future to embody new identities, your hypnotic experience is tailored to your specific intentions and desired outcomes.
By preparing your system with modalities like Breathwork or Sound, your subconscious becomes highly receptive, allowing the suggestions to truly take root and integrate.

Breathwork
If you've ever felt stuck in a repeating cycle—a habit you can't break, an emotion you can't release, or a belief you want to shift—Breathwork offers a powerful pathway for change. As part of your autonomic nervous system (the automatic processes that keep you alive, like your heart beating), your breath may be something you rarely think about. But it is also the one automatic function you can intentionally influence. This intrinsic power is the key to resilience, widening your window of tolerance, and expanding your capacity.
Our Breathwork sessions focus on conscious connected breathing—a circular pattern with no pause between the inhale and exhale—to intentionally and safely activate your system. This pattern, often guided by music, quickly influences your body's chemistry and energy, allowing you to release deeply held emotions and stress, clear limiting beliefs and subconscious blocks, and effectively bring completion to the cycle of stagnation. You can often experience altered states of consciousness, providing clarity and connection. Because your breath is always available to you, it's the fastest way to access and regulate your nervous system, creating the internal space needed for lasting change.
-

Sound
If you've ever put on music and felt an instant shift in energy and mood—maybe the opening instrumentals of Tom Petty's "American Girl" makes you want to air drum, or Debussy's "Clair de Lune" cues a deep exhale—that’s the principle of entrainment at work. Your brain naturally matches the frequency and rhythm of what you are hearing.
At The Good Muck, we harness this principle, delivering Sound through tonal and non-tonal instruments (e.g., singing bowls, chimes, rain sticks, and gongs) to cause an organic downshift in your brain from alert (Beta waves) to deeply relaxed states (Alpha and Theta).
Used alone or with other modalities, Sound is a powerful way to gently tune into your body, reduce systemic stress, and open your body and mind to the receptive state needed for lasting change.
-

Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra has many definitions, but here we refer to the modern practice, often called "yogic sleep" or, in Western scientific terms, Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR). Traditionally practiced in shavasana (corpse pose), Yoga Nidra combines the ancient wisdom of Vedantic philosophy with modern relaxation techniques. This practice of non-doing is foundational as lasting shifts in your subconscious mind and nervous system cannot occur without adequate rest.
As you are guided through the five koshas (sheaths or layers of the subtle bodies), you enter a liminal state between waking and sleeping, accessing restorative theta and delta brainwave states critical for memory processing and tissue repair.
Through the power of sankalpa (intention), Yoga Nidra cultivates the seeds of your desired outcome, making it ultimate practice for nurturing and compassionate self-care.

Frequently Asked Questions

The term ‘good muck’ acknowledges that growth is often messy. We believe that true transformation is found not in avoiding discomfort, but in meeting it with compassion. Your personal "muck"—your difficult emotions, old beliefs, and resistance—is simply fertile ground from which to clear subconscious blocks and create change. We hold space for you to gently navigate that ground so new patterns can take root.
-
Absolutely not. Our sessions are designed for all levels, and you are guided through every step, ensuring you meet yourself exactly where you are. If you are new to breathwork, please consult our Contraindictions pages before joining class to ensure this practice is right for you.
-
Each modality serves a distinct purpose: Breathwork actively clears blocks and shifts energy to prepare the mind for change. Hypnosis then plants positive intentions and shifts beliefs while the mind is receptive. Sound practices follow to integrate the new programming deeply into your body and nervous system, sealing the change. It's a full-system approach to emotional regulation.
-
Experiences vary widely, but you can expect to feel a full spectrum of sensation, both physical and emotional. You may feel deep relaxation, release emotional energy, or experience moments of clarity and insight.
Physically, it's common to experience tingling, temperature changes (hot or cold), spontaneous body movements, or shifts in breathing. Emotionally, you may find yourself unexpectedly laughing or crying as emotions surface and release.
Because we are working in "the muck," you may also encounter temporary discomfort, resistance, or intense feelings. This is perfectly normal and a sign that change is happening. You are always guided through these moments with compassion and given options to self-regulate.
-
Somatic work is highly complementary to traditional therapy, which often focuses on conscious processing and analysis. Our somatic approach works directly with the nervous system and subconscious, where deeply ingrained, non-verbal patterns and trauma responses are stored. We focus on unlearning old responses through the body and the mind in order to create systemic, felt shifts, rather than just intellectual understanding. This work is not a substitute to working with a licensed mental health practitioner. If you have any concerns, please consult your therapist prior to attending class.
-
It varies depending on the person and their desired outcome. Some people see permanent behavioral shifts in just one session, others need more time to fully integrate the experience into their system and create the new neural pathways necessary for lasting change. In general, consistency is key to re-wiring the nervous system. We recommend starting with a weekly commitment for at least six weeks to feel the sustained shift.
-
Integration is the final, organic outcome where your nervous system and subconscious mind accept and solidify the changes introduced during the session. It is the lasting change that moves beyond a temporary shift into permanent resilience. It is when your body and mind work together to implement the new beliefs and regulation patterns in your daily life. All classes at The Good Muck leave time and space for integration at the end of the session. And you may find you continue to integrate through out the coming days and weeks after class.

Safety and grounding are our highest priorities. All sessions are facilitated by Caitlin, a certified clinical practitioner whose voice and guidance are intentionally grounding. We create a container for you to explore your inner world at your own pace. You are always in control, and we will guide you back to your body and breath whenever needed. Our framework prioritizes choice and agency, allowing you to titrate your experience to avoid overwhelm.
-
Absolutely not—you haven't missed out on the benefits. Falling asleep is a perfectly natural response and simply means your body is taking the foundational rest it deeply needs. If you are experiencing a sleep deficit, your system will prioritize rest.
Additionally, many people confuse the trance-like state of these practices for sleep. If you "come up and out" following the final guidance, it simply means your conscious, logical mind went happily offline during the session. That is exactly what we want, as it allows us to communicate directly with your subconscious to bypass the resistance or blocks presented by your busy, analytical brain. You still receive the full benefits of the session.
